With rare exceptions, it’s still a thrill – after 30-plus years in this business – to sit down at my desk and come up with ways to help a client make an impact, especially in ways they didn’t expect. Sometimes that means improving the life of a small business owner – for his or her family or the community they call home. Often, it’s about gaining market share and visibility. And, it’s always about engaging an audience – whether that engagement means supporting a new product or service, or pushing someone to make life better for people they love or someone they will likely never meet.

Early in my career, a very kind – and very funny ad agency owner – gave me a job as creative director (with three writing samples and two ad layouts in my portfolio). She also pushed me to go out on my own when the agency was absorbed by its largest client. Thank you, Martha. I will always be grateful.

Since then, I have worked as a senior art director, a creative director, and an agency principal. Now, I’m the Communications Director of DCI Donor Services, the organ and tissue procurement programs in Tennessee, New Mexico, and Northern California.
